Sea Floating Anchor - Marine Anchors for Fishing Boats - Durable PVC Sea Anchor - Suitable for Boats up to 15 Metres - IMPA 330215, 330216
The Nylon Sea Floating Anchors are crafted from strong, high-quality PVC fabric with robust nylon belts to ensure their durability in harsh sea conditions. They are specifically designed for boats that are up to 15 metres long, and can effectively withstand turbulent sea conditions while keeping the boat's bow pointed towards the direction of the wind. These anchors are commonly used by fishing boats to keep the vessel steady without having to rely on traditional anchors.
SEA / MARINE ANCHOR
The Eval Sea Floating Anchors are engineered with durable PVC fabric and reinforced with sturdy nylon belts, making them ideal for enduring challenging sea environments. These anchors are purpose-built for boats up to 15 meters in length, and can efficiently maintain the vessel's orientation towards the wind direction, even during turbulent sea conditions. The fishing industry widely adopts them as a reliable means of keeping boats stable without the use of traditional anchoring methods.

What’s the Difference Between a Sea Anchor and a Drogue?
Although they may look similar, sea anchors and drogues serve very different purposes. A sea anchor, or para-anchor, is deployed from the bow to hold the vessel head to wind in storm conditions, helping to prevent capsizing, rolling, or broaching while keeping the boat more stable. A drogue, or para-drogue, is deployed from the stern to slow the vessel and keep it steady when running downwind, and it can also assist with emergency steering or prevent a tow from overtaking. For example, a yacht drogue is typically used from the stern to slow a yacht that is surfing too fast in strong winds and heavy seas. In short, sea anchors hold your bow to weather, while drogues slow you down and steady your course.
When Should I Use a Sea Anchor?
A sea anchor is designed for use in heavy storms when you need to keep the vessel bow head to wind. It helps the boat face the storm directly, avoiding dangerous side-on impacts from waves. This reduces discomfort for the crew and lowers the risk of capsizing. A para-anchor is essential kit for long-distance yachts and offshore sailing.
When Should I Use a Drogue?
A drogue should be used when running before large or breaking seas. By slowing the vessel down and stabilising its stern, it reduces the risk of broaching. Your drogue can also serve as an emergency steering system, particularly useful if your rudder is damaged. Tandem and triple para-drogue setups are available for added drag and smoother performance.
Can I Use a Drogue Instead of a Sea Anchor (or Vice Versa)?
No. The two products are not interchangeable. A drogue does not have the holding power to keep a vessel head to wind in storm conditions, while a sea anchor is not designed to provide stern drag for downwind stability. Instead, they complement each other—a drogue can even be used to slow a vessel enough to safely deploy a sea anchor.
How Do Sizes Differ Between a Sea Anchor and a Drogue?
Size matters because of their different functions. For example: A 10ft para-anchor can hold a yacht bow head to wind in storm conditions. A 5ft drogue, when deployed astern, is designed to slow the vessel and improve directional stability but cannot provide the holding power of a sea anchor.
What Materials Are Sea Anchors and Drogues Made From?
Para-anchors and para-drogues are typically made from high-strength nylon or Dacron, with a parachute-style design for maximum holding power. They are brightly coloured, to be seen easily during search and rescue situations, and a para-anchor is usually fitted with a stainless sinking chain to ensure proper deployment. Both include retrieval lines for recovery. Smaller drogues, such as lifebuoy drogues, may instead use lighter polyester fabric suited to small flotation equipment.
Are Drogues Difficult to Rig?
No. Drogues are straightforward to set up and can be quickly deployed from the stern. Multiple drogue units (tandem or triple) are designed to work together to give consistent and positive drag.
