Customer Success Story – CPS Activities Ltd

CPS Activities Ltd Brings Realism to Training with Ruth Lee Manikin ‘Dave’
Based in Scotland, CPS Activities Ltd specialises in hill walking, rock climbing, hiking, navigation, and health & safety consultancy. Owner Sean Magee is a Mountain Leader and Climbing Instructor committed to giving clients safe, realistic, and engaging outdoor experiences. To help deliver top-quality training, Sean turned to I.C. Brindle for a Ruth Lee manikin, affectionately known as “Dave.”
Meet Dave
"Everyone needs Dave in their business. Dave is one of the most loyal and committed employees you could ever have."
Since joining CPS Activities Ltd, Dave has:
- Fallen down stairs
- Fallen off a table
- Been unconscious on the floor
- Passed out on a chair
- Fallen over outdoors
- Been crushed under a stack of chairs
"Dave’s future plans involve car accidents, cycling accidents, climbing accidents, ligature rescue, evacuation chair training and so much more. He really does have an exciting and bright future!"
Why Dave Works for CPS Activities Ltd
Dave is part of the Ruth Lee range of manikins, which are designed for scenario training. Sean chose the 50kg model:
"I feel that is heavy enough to portray an adult but light enough for me to transport. The weight is thoughtfully distributed around the body and limbs to really give it a real feel when it comes to moving an unconscious casualty."
Dave has already proved invaluable at CPS Activities training courses.
"Dave has also been helping out with our social media and is a bit of a tart when it comes to getting attention. Feel free to say hi to Dave when you see him around!"
Bringing Realism to Training with Ruth Lee Manikins
On a practical note, effective first aid, evacuation, and rescue training relies on realistic practice. For CPS Activities Ltd, this means using equipment that accurately represents real-life scenarios so trainees can develop confidence and competence in safe handling and casualty care.
By incorporating the Ruth Lee manikin, “Dave,” into their courses, CPS Activities Ltd can replicate the weight, feel, and movement of a real casualty. This allows trainees to practise essential skills such as lifting, carrying, and positioning in a controlled but realistic environment.
"I feel that [Dave] is heavy enough to portray an adult but light enough for me to transport. The weight is thoughtfully distributed around the body and limbs to really give it a real feel when it comes to moving an unconscious casualty," explains Sean.
Dave’s durable design makes him suitable for a variety of scenarios, including evacuation chair training, first aid practice, and ligature or rescue exercises. He’s also easy to carry, which means that outdoor locations can be used safely while maintaining the realism of the exercise.
With Dave, trainees gain hands-on experience that goes beyond theory, ensuring they leave the course better prepared for real-world situations. Even in the first few weeks of use, Dave has already proved invaluable to the quality and effectiveness of CPS Activities’ training sessions.
