Decontamination Range FAQ

What is a Decontamination Shelter?

A 'Decon Tent', or decontamination shelter, is a portable, inflatable structure designed to facilitate the decontamination of individuals exposed to hazardous substances. It provides a controlled environment for decontamination procedures in the event of exposure to hazardous substances and contaminants.

What Sizes of Decontamination Units are Available?

Our Decontamination Tents are available in a wide range of sizes to meet diverse needs and applications from smaller private Hospitals and response vehicles to larger NHS and MOD operations . We offer customisable solutions tailored to your specific requirements. For example, our standard decontamination shelter which incorporates a De-Robing Area, Decontamination Cell and a Re-Robing Area measures 3m x 5.02m x 2.95m (W,L,H) , whilst our mass decontamination shelter, which can Decontaminate as many as 10 people at once,  spans 9m x 5.02m x 2.95m. We also offer emergency response single shower units in sizes such as 1.5m x 1.5m and 2m x 2m. Whatever the size and configuration you may need, we can deliver the decontamination solution that you need.

How Quickly Does It Take to Inflate a Decontamination Shelter?

The Decontamination Shelter and Shower units can be set up in a matter of minutes and maintain their structure without continuous airflow once inflated, Strong, welded PVC beams eliminate the need for cumbersome mechanical frameworks that are overly heavy and time-consuming to assemble. In recent tests we saw a team of 6 NHS HART members (Hazardous Area Response Team) erect one of our largest 3 piece Mass Decontamination Units without any prior training or guidance in under 9 minutes, with minimal training and additional inflation pumps the estimated time for a Shelter to Decontaminate 10 persons at one time would be approximately 6 minutes!

How Many People Can You Decontaminate at One Time in the Shelter?

The capacity of our decontamination units varies depending on the model, such as our single Decon shelter, our Mass Decon Shelter, and Decon Showers. Typically, our standard Decontamination Tents can accommodate multiple individuals simultaneously with PPE gear donned, such as Hazmat suits, ensuring decontamination processes remain efficient in terms of workspace, footfall within the area, and safe distances.

How Heavy is a Decontamination Shelter?

The weight of our Decontamination Shelters varies by model and configuration, but each shelter is designed to be as lightweight and quick to deploy as possible for its size. For example, our 5x3m Decontamination Shelter weighs approximately 70kg when packed. Please refer to the specific product details for exact weight information.
