Individual Isolation Unit
Product Description:
The Rapid Deployment Isolation Unit for single-occupancy patient care is designed for quick use in emergency isolation situations. Lightweight, portable, and space-efficient, this 'ready to go' portable medical isolation unit (PMIU) can be incorporated with a negative pressure system for effective patient isolation—such as containing patients that have been exposed to contagious or infectious diseases.
This single-patient isolation unit is a heavy-duty, all-one-piece structure; with gas-tight welded seams with sealed, self-closing entryways and sealed windows to ensure a secure and controlled environment. With a removable inner isolation cell that can be replaced if compromised.
Includes repair and anchor kits, inflation tools, built-in support frames for stability, and vehicle flaps for versatile deployment.
Once inflated, the tough PVC welded beams stand firm without the need for continuous airflow. High-level and low-level anchor points ensure the inflatable isolation unit remains stable in challenging environments and changing weather conditions, with added stability from two vehicle flaps that allow the unit to be weighted down on hard surfaces.
This Individual Patient Isolation Room features wipe-clean, UV-stable, chemical-resistant, flame-retardant, and waterproof materials. Each side has clear PVC windows with privacy covers, alongside ventilation openings to allow airflow while maintaining patient privacy. The ceiling of the shelter is made from white PVC to allow light transfer.
Hosing channels accommodate both vertical and horizontal 'layflat' pipework, and two service ports are supplied for waste water management.
Organisation branding is available upon request.

What is a Decontamination Shelter?
A Decontamination Shelter, sometimes referred to as a ‘Decon Tent’, is a portable inflatable structure designed to provide a controlled environment for the decontamination of individuals exposed to hazardous substances, contaminants, or potentially infectious materials. Commonly used by emergency services, hospitals, military organisations, industrial facilities, and disaster response teams, these shelters support rapid deployment decontamination operations in both planned and emergency scenarios.
What Sizes of Decontamination Units are Available?
Our inflatable decontamination shelters and portable decon shower units are available in a wide range of sizes and configurations to suit different operational requirements, from compact hospital response units to large-scale NHS and MOD mass decontamination systems. Examples include:
- Mass Decontamination Shelter: 9m x 5.02m x 2.95m (W,L,H)
- Dual Lane Shelter: 4m x 5.02m x 2.95m (W,L,H)
- Resilience Shelter: 2.5m x 3m x 2.95m (W,L,H)
- HART Shelter: 2.3m x 3m x 2.8m (W,L,H)
Our standard layouts can include:
- De-robing areas
- Decontamination cells
- Re-robing areas
- Integrated shower systems
- Multiple casualty processing lanes
We also offer fully bespoke inflatable decontamination solutions tailored to your operational requirements.
How Quickly Can a Decontamination Shelter Be Inflated?
Our rapid deployment decontamination shelters can typically be fully erected within minutes using the supplied inflation pumps.
Key benefits include:
- No heavy mechanical framework
- Air-tight inflatable PVC beams
- Lightweight, portable construction
- Minimal setup training required
- No continuous airflow required once inflated
- anti-fungal and flame-retardant materials
During recent deployment testing, a team of six NHS HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) personnel assembled one of our largest three-piece mass decontamination shelters in under nine minutes without any prior training or guidance.
Do the Shelters Require Continuous Inflation?
No. Once inflated, the shelters maintain their structure without the need for continuous airflow. The welded inflatable air beams are designed to remain rigid and stable throughout deployment, reducing noise levels, power consumption, and complex operations. This makes our decontamination shelters ideal when deployed in the fieled, or isolated areas where power sources are limited.
How Many People Can Be Decontaminated at One Time?
Capacity depends on the shelter model and configuration.
Our inflatable decontamination systems are designed to safely accommodate multiple casualties and personnel wearing full PPE, including hazmat suits and respiratory equipment, while maintaining safe movement and operational workflow within the shelter. Our larger mass decontamination shelters can process up to 10 people simultaneously depending on the operational setup.
Are the Shelters Suitable for CBRN Incidents?
Yes. Our decontamination shelters can be configured for use in a wide range of hazardous environments, including:
- CBRN response
- Hazmat incidents
- Industrial contamination events
- Healthcare infection control
- Emergency response operations
- Mass casualty decontamination scenarios
Please contact our team to discuss your specific operational requirements and deployment environment.
How Heavy is a Decontamination Shelter?
The weight varies depending on the shelter size and specification, however all units are designed to remain lightweight and portable relative to their operational footprint.
For example :Our 4m x 5m Dual Lane Shelter weighs approximately 70kg when packed.
What PPE Should Be Worn During Decontamination Procedures?
Personnel should wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) suitable for the operational environment and hazardous substances involved.
This may include:
- Full-body protective suits
- Chemical-resistant gloves
- Respirators or face masks
- Eye protection
- Protective footwear or boots
PPE requirements may vary depending on your organisation’s procedures and governing regulations.
Can Multiple Shelters Be Connected Together?
Yes. Our inflatable shelter systems can be connected together to create larger modular decontamination facilities tailored to your requirements.
This allows organisations to expand capacity with:
- Additional shower lanes
- Separate de-robing and re-robing areas
- Equipment storage sections
- Medical triage areas
- Staff welfare zones
- Emergency isolation areas
Can the Shelters Be Used in Adverse Weather Conditions?
Yes. Our inflatable decontamination shelters are manufactured using durable, weather-resistant materials suitable for challenging operational environments.
The shelters are designed for use in:
- Heavy rain
- Wind
- Cold weather conditions
- High-footfall emergency response environments
Additional anchoring and ballast options are available for enhanced stability where required.
How is Wastewater from the Decontamination Hoses Managed?
Our decontamination shelters can be configured with integrated drainage systems and wastewater collection solutions to help manage contaminated runoff safely and efficiently. We can advise on the most suitable setup for your operational requirements.
What Power Supply is Required?
Our inflatable decontamination shelters can be deployed using compatible electric inflation pumps and support equipment.
Power options may include:
Specific power requirements vary depending on the shelter size and equipment configuration.
How Small Do the Shelters Pack Down?
Despite their large and spaceous deployed size for operations, the shelters pack down into compact transport bags for easy storage and transport. Their space-saving design makes them suitable for ambulances, emergency response vehicles, rapid response trailers, and smaller equipment storage areas, allowing teams to transport and deploy the shelters quickly without requiring large transport vehicles or excessive storage space.
What is Included with the Shelter?
Included equipment may vary depending on the configuration selected, but commonly supplied items with your custom shelter include:
- Inflatable shelter structure
- Inflation pumps
- Pegs and anchoring kits
- Repair kits
- Carry/storage bags
- Groundsheets
- Connection systems
- Operational manuals / datasheets
Additional accessories and bespoke equipment packages are also available.
Are Your Decontamination Shelters Certified?
Yes. Materials used throughout the shelters are tested and certified for properties including:
- Flame retardancy
- Water resistance
- Contruction Durability
- Anti-Fungal
For detailed technical specifications, certifications, and compliance information, please refer to the individual product datasheets and downloadable product packs available on the product pages.
