Knots on lifting lines
Knots on the lifting lines are spaced every 50 cm, allowing up to four people to assist in lifting a casualty weighing up to 120 kg. These knots provide a secure grip, enabling rescuers to focus their strength on lifting rather than gripping the rope. For single-handed rescues, the weight can be split between the lines. By fastening each line and hoisting one metre at a time, rescuers can manage the lift more efficiently. An average casualty weighs 80–110 kg when lifted from the sea. With the knots' support, one person can realistically manage 50–60 kg manually.
