Anti-Static Helicopter Earthing Pole - Grounding Pole for Helicopters with Anti-Static Feature - Static Discharge Pole
The NATO Approved Anti-static Helicopter Earthing Pole, with a length of approximately 1.25m (1250mm), is essential for ensuring safety during helicopter operations such as slung loads and transported cargo. Designed to discharge dangerous static electricity accumulated during flight, the helicopter pole acts as a 'static discharge wand', preventing sparking that could damage equipment or harm personnel.
Helicopter Grounding Rod - Anti-Static Discharge Pole for Helicopter Safety - Static Electricity Grounding Pole
This NATO Stock No. 5120-99-728-7485 helicopter anti-static earthing pole features a robust steel hook/probe, extending 150cm, and a non-conductive rubber design. The 10mm copper earthing wire, sheathed in plastic, is securely fastened to the steel hook. The standard wire length is 5 metres, though alternative lengths, including the CAA-recommended 3.5m to 5m, are available upon request. Additional features include a sturdy wooden stave, available in 1.35m or 2.0m, with the earthing wire tightly whipped to ensure no strain on the wire-probe connection. The stave's foam grip extends 30cm along the handle for secure use.
Why Would I Need a Helicopter Earthing Pole?
When helicopters carry slung loads, such as cargo or equipment in a cargo net, they can accumulate significant static electricity during flight due to friction from the rotor blades interacting with the air, along with environmental factors like dust or dry conditions. The earthing pole not only safely grounds the cargo, but it can also be used to discharge static from the helicopter itself when it’s carrying cargo that prevents the helicopter from landing. This ensures both the helicopter and its load are properly grounded, protecting the crew and ground personnel from electric shocks.
If this charge isn't properly grounded when the load is delivered, it can discharge through anyone who comes into contact with the cargo or net, leading to electric shocks. These shocks can cause serious injury or accidents, as personnel handling the load may lose control or be knocked back by the force of the discharge.
A helicopter earthing pole ensures that static electricity is safely discharged from the cargo net, load or the helicopter itself before anyone touches it, protecting ground crew and reducing the risk of injury.
